One World - One Title
The FIBA World Championship is played every 4 years and determines the best basketball nation of the world. The first FIBA World Championship was played in 1950 in Argentina and has since then been organised 15 times.
The 2010 edition will be played in Turkey from 28th August until 12th September in Ankara, Kayseri, Izmir and Istanbul.
Qualificiation
Already qualified are:
Host Nation: Turkey
Olympic Champion: USA
18 additional teams have qualified during the 2009 Continental Championships
| Africa (3 teams): | Angola, Côte d'Ivoire, Tunisia |
| Americas (4 teams): | Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Puerto Rico |
| Asia (3 teams): | China, Iran, Jordan |
| Europe (6 teams): | Croatia, Spain, France, Greece, Slovenia, Serbia |
| Oceania (2 teams): | Australia, New Zealand |
4 additional teams will receive a wild card from FIBA in autumn 2009.
System of Competition
The teams will play against each other in the preliminary phase in four groups of 6 teams. The 4 top teams from each group will then qualify directly for the Eighth-Finals, Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals and Finals.
All the games from the Eighth-Finals to the Finals will be played on a one-game elimination basis.
