MADRID (FIBA World Championship) - Fernando San Emeterio has revealed his "immense joy" at making Spain's final squad for the FIBA World Championship.

The Caja Laboral swingman survived Sergio Scariolo's final cut to beat Carlos Suarez to the last available slot in the 12-man group.

"It gives me immense joy," he said. "It was what both Carlos and I wanted, but unfortunately one had to be left out and the squad of the world and European champions is very difficult to get into.

"I am delighted to be in the 12 to go to the World Championship, and now I will keep working to help the team."

The 26-year-old said his selection continued a perfect year after winning the ACB play-offs with his club.

"For me this year has been very impressive," he said. "I remember 12 months ago I was almost on my way out of Vitoria and now I'm in the squad of the defending world champions.

"In previous years I thought maybe I would have a place on the shortlist, but certainly at the start of the season it was not going through my head that I might be going to the World Championship.

"At the time I was really trying to analyse my future, but after some hard work and some luck it has come together beautifully and this is a year I will never forget."
