I know classification games aren’t all that sexy but let’s not forget the talent that will be on display Friday.
Slovenia vs. Spain – 15.00 GMT – Live on FIBATV.com
These two played very different games on Wednesday as Spain just lost out to Serbia while Slovenia were dismantled by hosts Turkey, and you have to wonder how the teams will react and if the coaches will look to the end of their benches.
For Spain it’s been a very long time since they played a match where a medal wasn’t on the line in one way or another.
In 2009 they won EuroBasket, in 2008 they lost to Team USA in the gold medal game of the Olympics, at EuroBasket 2007 they lost to Russia in the gold medal game, in 2006 they won the World Championship, and at EuroBasket 2005 they played for the bronze medal. In fact the 2004 Olympics-when they lost to the U.S. in the Quarter Finals-was the last time they failed to play for a medal at a major competition.
Still, even if the two coaches empty their benches there should be plenty of talent on display as youngsters like Victor Claver, Sergio Llull and Gasper Vidmar will get a chance to shine.
Russia vs. Argentina – 18.00 GMT - Live on FIBTV.com
It’s been a while since I’ve seen a shooting display like the one Lithuania put on against Argentina, and as elated as the South Americans looked after their Eighth Final win over Brazil they looked equally dejected before this game was even over.
Can they bounce back and leave Turkey in the fifth spot?
Hard to say but you would have to imagine that Russia are the team in better spirits at this point , having played admirably against Team USA.

And just a note that you can of course see the Semi Finals live on FIBATV.com on Saturday.
