Sani BECIROVIC

Sani Becirovic is only 29 but it seems that he already had two or three careers.

The son of coach Mehmed Becirovic, he was a true basketball genius during his teenage years, almost like Ricky Rubio is nowadays.

He began playing in the Slovenian pro-league at the age of 14 and was a member of the Senior National Team at 17. In the meantime, he was the unofficial MVP of the 1997 U16 European Championship and the official MVP this time of the U18 European Championship (28.5 points a game). In 2000-01, he was the most promising guard in Euroleague, averaging 20.5 points a game with Ljubljana.

That was the first episode of his career. In 2002, he had a terrible knee injury which at the time, the doctors diagnosed as career-ending.

He was born with a genetic disorder in both knees but corrective surgery subsequently saved him - a true miracle. Since then he has never been quite the player he was supposed to be – though the Denver Nuggets drafted him as the 46th pick in 2003 – but he has still developed into a great European player.

His leadership and shooting abilities are way above average and he does not run from his responsibilities.

More importantly, he has always been great with the Slovenian jersey on his back.
