After a 2009 spoiled by injury, Kench re-established himself as one of the top Kiwi guards in the New Zealand NBL last season, averaging 16ppg, 5rpg and 4apg for the Christchurch Cougars, suggesting he is back to the form that saw him selected for the 2008 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
In 2006, he enjoyed a breakout season for the Canterbury Rams, averaging 18.7 points (52.8% FG), 3.4 assists and 2.9 steals, and was rewarded with contracts with the Slingers and then Wollongong Hawks in the Australian NBL. His last game of the 2010 NBL season saw him go for 29 points on 12/18 shooting, and with the absence of veterans Mark Dickel and Paul Henare, Kench will play an important role giving relief to emerging point guard Lindsay Tait.
