Once set to follow the way paved by Andrei Kirilenko – from CSKA to the NBA as a talented small forward – Monia only played a handful of games in the States and promptly left the following summer.
Often labelled as an under-achiever, Monia has in fact never quit and last season served as yet another proof: he led the Superleague in rebounding during the regular season and was a top-10 scorer, helping Dynamo make a solid play-off run with a roster that had no foreign players.
The inspired effort was rewarded with a new contract this summer, this time with Khimki who will try to establish themselves in Euroleague.
Monia uses his outstanding leaping ability to rise above the rim for dunks or to release jumpers that are hard to block and go in from any distance.
On defence, he can guard both the perimeter and frontcourt players, often sharing power forward duties.
Thanks to his versatility and vast international experience, Monia can become the X-factor for this team.
