Biography

The second leading scorer at the Athens Olympics, averaging 21ppg, Jones retired from international basketball after his country’s unsuccessful 2007 FIBA Oceania Championship campaign.

However, after another strong season in the Australian NBL, Jones has returned for an international swansong in Turkey.

A deadly three-point shooter, Jones was a key player in the Tall Blacks’ fourth-place finish at the 2002 FIBA World Championship, scoring 18.2 points and shooting 41% from long range.

He poured 26 points in the Bronze medal playoff against Germany, and 33 points on 6 of 8 shooting from beyond the arc against China in pool play.

The Australian NBL’s Best Sixth Man playing for the New Zealand Breakers, Jones also has European experience after playing in Finland and Italy.

Jones played for three seasons for Cantù, competing in the ULEB Cup and the FIBA EuroCup. A steady head at the shooting guard position, his inclusion is a major bonus for the young New Zealand side.
