Abercrombie has burst onto the New Zealand basketball scene, his highlight reel plays quickly making him a fan favourite.

In his rookie season in the New Zealand NBL, he was named to the All-Star Five after averaging 16 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.

He followed this by averaging 9.0 points and 4.0 rebounds in an impressive debut season in the elite Australian NBL, He had the dunk of the year, throwing down an alley-oop with his head at rim level.

His international debut was just as impressive, playing a key defensive role on Australian star Brad Newley in the Tall Blacks’ emotional 2009 FIBA Oceania Championship win.

He averaged 5.0 points and 4.5 rebounds for good measure.

Abercrombie's defense, athleticism and ability to rebound strongly from the small forward or shooting guard position will be crucial to New Zealand's chances of progressing to the knockout stages in Turkey.
