ASU Sports Club’s power forward could have been named Most Improved Player of the 2009 FIBA Asia Championship in Tianjin if the award existed since he almost doubled his statistics compared to the 2007 opus in Tokushima.

  Last summer, Abbaas even finished fourth in rebounding and second among Jordanian scorers behind Rasheim Wright

. The 2009-10 season was also a very good one for Abbaas.

For the first time in his career, he showed he could take his skills out of the Jordanian League and had a great season in the China Basketball Association (CBA), scoring 11.6 points and grabbing 9.7 rebounds per game with the Shanghai Dongfang Sharks.

Back in Jordan in May, he averaged his best numbers in the Asian Club Championship.

The Palestine-born player is only 26-years-old and can still improve a lot.

Additionally, the experience he will get by playing well against the best international players this summer could boost his career.

He will have a major role in Coach Palma’s selection once again.

He will be the leader of Jordan’s game in the paint, where he usually makes over 60 percent of his shot attempts.

  He will probably be in better shape than his team-mates as he played more games than them during the season.

Abbaas is the only National Team player who decided to play abroad during the suspension of Jordan’s domestic league.
